Spartacus was a unique series, mainly because of the consistent mix of gory violence and often gratuitous nudity. Still, it also mixed in a healthy dose of drama. While the show made names out of newer actors, it also featured some faces that fans were more than a little familiar with.
Lucy Lawless of Xena: Warrior Princess fame played Lucretia, the wife of Quintus Lentulus Batiatus. He owned a ludus, or gladiator school, where gladiators like Spartacus were trained. Lucretia was an intelligent, power-hungry woman with much to say about everything and anything going on in Capua.

One of the reasons fans loved Lucretia was the fact that she was quick with a witty comeback. It didn't matter who stepped in her path. If they said the wrong thing, viewers could be sure that she was about to dunk on them.
Batiatus was no exception to this. He once mentioned that every venture didn't necessarily end in a climax. Lucretia responded with this line and fans learned a lot about their relationship at that moment.

The backstabbing relationship between Lucretia and Ilithyia finally came to an end with Ilithyia's pregnancy. Lucretia and Batiatus had yearned for an heir to their empire. Unfortunately, Ilithyia would unwillingly provide one.
Lucretia cut the child from Ilithyia's womb, leaving her to die. And she would say some incredibly evil words to her former friend before doing the deed.
4 "Return To His Cell Tonight"
When it came to taking care of the gladiators, Lucretia knew what needed to be done. While she occasionally did the work herself, she had a cadre of female slaves whose jobs were to see to the every need of each gladiator.
When Mira was unsuccessful in bedding Spartacus, Lucretia was incensed. Once again, she turned a vile phrase that made her intentions clear. "Return to his cell tonight and I expected his c— in you … or you'll find a sword in its place."
3 "I Would Not Have It Flapping About Absent Direction."
Ostensibly, Ilithyia and Lucretia were just using each other. Ilithyia wanted access to the gladiators and Lucretia wanted access to Ilithyia's power and influence. It was never a real friendship, just one of convenience.
Regardless, Lucretia was the dominant member of their relationship. When Ilithyia complained about Lucretia trying to silence her tongue, Lucretia's response was to the point and quite on brand.
2 "I Am Not. I'm Far Worse."
Confrontations between Titus and Lucretia were always tense. He obviously did not approve of her, not that she really seemed to care. To Lucretia, Titus was nothing more than an obstacle to be overcome and she certainly did.
Titus once asked Lucretia if he was wrong about her and if she was a better person than he believed. Lucretia responded with two simple lines that were the beginning of an epic speech. She put Titus firmly in his place and eventually, she put him in a grave.

The wisdom of Lucretia was woefully underestimated by everyone around her. It was also frequently overwhelmed by her mean and crazy streak, which led her to commit some impressively violent murders.
Ilithyia once made the comment that she thought she was dealing with a "proper" Roman woman in Lucretia. As it turned out, proper was not a term Lucretia had any use for.
